COMPANY OVERVIEW
Established in York in 1820 and a limited company since 1919, Shouksmiths offer the full range of mechanical and electrical design and installation services, with a wide range of clients in the public and private sector.
Our turnover is in the region of £15 million and we employ more than 70 people directly. With a low turnover of employees, we consider our skills to have matured together as the best in their industries; many of our employees have been with us for most of their career and investing in the next generation is incredibly important to us. We always have apprentices on our team and a number of senior staff have worked their way up from there. We work hard to constantly develop our knowledge and capabilities to deliver the best solutions for you.
COMPANY HISTORY
We are proud of the fact that throughout our history we have always had extensive family involvement. Our current Chairman is Richard Shouksmith, his sons David and Edward are Managing Director and Commercial Director respectively and the board draws on the experience and skills of several family members. As the seventh generation of Shouksmiths to be involved with the business, David and Edward are now responsible for taking the company forward and continuing to develop the business to meet market demand.
COMMITTED TO TRAINING
Our business and industry depend upon a skilled workforce. For us, investing in training is a core business requirement and our Training Strategy sits at the heart of all we do.
We work closely with sector-specific training agencies and local colleges and regularly recruit new apprentices. We also have a number of employees on Accredited Prior Learning Schemes and office-based technical apprentices working towards higher education qualifications.
A number of our team have received individual awards for their achievements in training and the company itself has been recognised for supporting and advancing apprentices within our businesses, helping to build the workforce of the future.
